Electromagnetic Chucks, also commonly referred to as Electromagnetic Plates or Electromagnetic Mirrors, are advanced workholding devices crucial for precision machining operations. These robust systems utilize controlled electromagnetism to securely clamp ferromagnetic workpieces, ensuring stability and accuracy during various industrial processes. Their exceptional versatility makes them indispensable across a wide spectrum of machine tools. Electromagnetic Plates are suitable for versatile use in milling, borwek and planer machines, both for grinding and erosion machines (Platinum-EDM processes). The robust holding force generated by these chucks provides ample grip, effectively preventing workpiece movement or vibration, which is critical for achieving high-precision finishes and maintaining dimensional accuracy throughout the machining cycle.
Working Principle:
The fundamental principle behind Electromagnetic Chucks lies in the controlled generation of a magnetic field. The supply voltage for these high-performance Electromagnetic Tables is typically 220 Volt AC, which is then converted by an internal or external control unit to a stable 110 Volt DC operating voltage. This DC current flows through coils embedded within the chuck body, creating a powerful electromagnetic field. When energized, this field induces magnetism in ferromagnetic materials (such as steel, rich in Iron – Fe), drawing the workpiece firmly onto the chuck’s surface. This magnetic attraction provides a powerful, even clamping force across the entire contact area. Conversely, when the electrical power to the coils is intentionally cut off, the electromagnetic field collapses, allowing the workpiece to be released. To ensure complete and efficient release, a specialized demagnetization process is often employed, which is typically managed by an integrated or optional control unit.
The control unit is a vital component that governs the functionality and safety of the electromagnetic chuck. It houses a sophisticated release circuit specifically designed for electromagnetic tables, which not only cuts off the power but also actively works to reset and minimize any residual magnetism that might remain on the table surface after demagnetization. This crucial feature ensures that workpieces can be easily and quickly separated from the chuck without any lingering magnetic adhesion, thereby improving operational efficiency and reducing potential damage to finished parts or the chuck itself.
